Bowling Green ended their weekend series with Miami [OH], sweeping them 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, their sixth win in a row.
Here’s how it went down:
First Set
To begin the first set, the RedHawks jumped to a quick 6-2 lead after a kill by Gentry Warrick.
Bowling Green came right back swinging, with a service ace by junior outside hitter Lauryn Hovey tying things up in Oxford 6-6.
Miami, OH, remained with a consistent one-point to two-point lead for most of the set. After another service ace by Hovey tied the setup, seconds later, a combined block by junior middle blocker Jessica Andrews and sophomore setter Amanda Otten gave the Orange and Brown their first lead of the day, up 14-13.
A service ace via Otten got Bowling Green their largest lead of two, taking a 20-18 lead late in the first set.
After a tightly contested set, Bowling Green went on a four-point scoring run, capped off by a kill from redshirt freshman outside hitter Edyta Waclawzyck, sealing the first set for BG, 25-20.
Waclawzyck had an incredible set for the Orange and Brown, recording seven kills in just the first set of play.
Second Set
After the two-minute break, Bowling Green jumped to a 5-0 lead to open the second set.
Minutes later, Bowling Green took another five-point lead after a Hovey kill put them up 13-8 halfway through the set.
Heading into the first timeout, the Orange and Brown were up 15-10 against their MAC rivals, another five-point lead for the Falcons.
After the first Falcons timeout, Bowling Green put together a 3-0 scoring run, with a kill via senior outside hitter Mia Tyler, taking the set for BG, 25-19.
Third Set
After two extremely successful sets, the Falcons took a 7-2 lead over the RedHawks to begin the third set after a massive spike by Hovey.
A RedHawks rally brought the game back to a one-point lead for BG, only up 10-9 early in the third set.
With Bowling Green’s constant attack forcing a Miami timeout, BG headed into the break now up 13-9.
The RedHawks rallied back yet again, tying the set 18-18 and forcing BGSU head coach Danijela Tomic to use her first timeout.
Bowling Green came swinging right back, scoring four points and forcing another Miami timeout, up by 3 points, 22-19 late in the third set.
After the timeout, Bowling Green sealed the Saturday victory after a kill by Otten, the final score 25-19, a 3-0 sweep for the Orange and Brown.
Bowling Green’s victory over the RedHawks is their sixth in a row. The Orange and Brown’s Saturday sweep over the RedHawks is their eighth of the 2024 season and their fifth in six games.
