After a monumental 3-0 victory over No.14 Western Michigan this past Friday, which ended a long losing streak against the Broncos over 37 matches, BGSU men’s soccer (10-4-2) (4-2-1) take on a new challenge as they travel out to the west coast to Corvallis, Oregon to take on the Oregon State Beavers (9-3-3, 5-1-1) this Wednesday night.
It will be the first time in the two program’s history that they will face off against each other. Many say it should make for a very exciting matchup.
Bowling Green:
With the big win, the Falcons have officially secured a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference ( MVC ) tournament at home. However, the attitude remains the same for BG. Continue to keep playing 90 minutes of competitive soccer to get the job done, and that includes going on the road.
So far this season, Bowling Green’s road record has been a bit of a rocky one as they currently sit 3-4-1 as of before this matchup. Their last match win that wasn’t at Cochrane Stadium took place back on September 24, when they matched up against Eastern Illinois at the Rossford Dome in Rossford, Ohio, and won 5-0.
Even though they aren’t in a bad spot in regards to tournament eligibility, if the Falcons want to continue playing well far into the tournament, being better on the road is almost required.
Could they improve the road schedule? We shall wait and see.
Oregon State:
Oregon State (9-3-3) (5-1-1) is a bit of an interesting variable going into this game. The Beavers are currently sitting amongst the best in the PAC-12 conference despite coming off a 1-1 draw against San Francisco back on Sunday.
However, the squad, led by head coach Greg Dalby, is no stranger to having consistency within the program. Including a five-match-winning streak, where they beat teams such as Utah Valley (1-0), Santa Clara (2-0), Pacific (4-1), Saint Mary’s (2-0), and Gonzaga (4-2).
Despite the streak hitting a bit of a bump in the road, when coach Dalby’s squad is on top of their game, they make it known.
For Bowling Green, many are expecting another good fight from the men’s squad. Mainly from the recent stars in the Western Michigan matchup: senior midfielder Alberto Anaya, fifth-year goalkeeper Brenden Graves, and junior forward Trace Terry. As well as other multiple standouts from this season led by head coach Eric Nichols.
The game is set for 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Paul Lorenz Field.
