The men’s college basketball season is fully underway, with Mid-American Conference (MAC) teams through two weeks of non-conference play.
Toledo sits at the top of the conference with a 3-1 record, while every team has at least one win.
Here’s a look at how every MAC team fared in their recent contests:
Akron
The Zips played just one game this past week, falling to undefeated Saint Mary’s on Tuesday night, 87-68.
Junior forwards Josiah Harris and Amani Lyles led Akron in scoring against the Gaels with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Harris currently leads the Zips with 14.5 points per game this season.
Although Akron had 30 points off the bench, Saint Mary’s outrebounded them 55-26. Akron is tied for ninth in the MAC with 34.7 rebounds per game and has the second-worst rebounding margin in the conference (-6.7).
UA currently sits at 1-2 on the season, with a loss to Arkansas State and a win over Ohio Wesleyan.
Ball State
Ball State dropped two games this week, falling to just 1-3 on the young season.
The Cardinals fell 77-69 to Dayton on Wednesday before losing to Indiana State on Saturday, 94-84.
Junior guard Jermahri Hill dominated against the Flyers, scoring 25 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Meanwhile, five Cardinals scored double figures in the 10-point loss to Indiana State.
BSU has struggled shooting this season. They rank 11th in the MAC with a 40.1% field goal percentage and 10th with a 29.7% three-point percentage.
Bowling Green
BGSU split their two matchups this past week, moving to 1-3 on the season.
The Falcons defeated Taylor University 107-43 on Monday before falling 86-72 to Michigan State at the Breslin Center on Saturday.
Bowling Green struggled shooting against the Spartans, shooting just 19.2% (5-26) on three-pointers. The Orange and Brown were also outrebounded 42-28.
Senior forward Marcus Johnson led the Falcons in scoring in both games, finishing with 19 against the Trojans and 23 against MSU.
Buffalo
After winning their first two games of the season against Old Dominion and Fredonia State, Buffalo did not have the same luck this past week, falling 86-77 to Notre Dame on Monday before losing to Bryant on Thursday, 87-64.
UB struggled against Bryant, shooting just 35.8% (19-53) from the field and 22.2% (6-27) on three-pointers and was outrebounded 52-37.
Buffalo is tied for ninth in the MAC with 34.7 rebounds per game and is last in the conference with a -9.3 rebounding margin.
Sophomore guard Ryan Sabol was the bright spot for Buffalo in both losses. Sabol led the Bulls in scoring in both contests, tallying 18 against the Fighting Irish and 17 against Bryant.
Sabol ranks fourth in the MAC with 18.7 points per game this season.
Central Michigan
Central Michigan split their two matchups this past week in the Marquette Challenge, moving to 2-2 on the season.
The Chippewas fell 70-62 to Marquette on Monday before escaping Fairfax, Virginia, with a one-point victory over George Mason on Wednesday, 70-69.
Consensus MAC Preseason Player of the Year Anthony Pritchard struggled against Marquette, scoring just six points on 3-8 shooting. He rebounded on Wednesday, scoring a team-high 21 points on 7-13 shooting.
Although they won, Pritchard, junior forward Ugnius Jarusevicius and sophomore forward Bryan Ndjonga all fouled out against George Mason.
Eastern Michigan
The Eagles split their pair of matchups this past week, moving to 2-2 on the season.
Eastern Michigan escaped Indianapolis with a 74-71 win over IU Indy on Thursday before falling to Cleveland State on Saturday, 71-63.
Senior guard Jalen Terry shined, leading EMU in scoring in both games. Terry tallied 28 points against IU Indy before finishing with 25 against the Vikings.
Terry currently ranks fifth in the MAC with 18.5 points per game. However, Eastern Michigan ranks last in the conference with just 66.0 points per game.
Kent State
Kent State only had one game this past week, suffering their first loss of the season, moving their record to 2-1.
After defeating Louisiana and Miami-Hamilton to begin the season, the Golden Flashes fell to No. 5 Auburn on Wednesday, 79-56.
Redshirt senior forward VonCameron Davis and senior guard Jalen Sullinger had good showings against one of the top teams in the country, scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively.
Miami (OH)
The RedHawks also only had one game this past week, picking up a victory to move to 2-1 on the season.
After beating Appalachian State and falling to Wright State, Miami (OH) blew out Maryland Eastern Shore by 18 points, 88-70.
Sophomore wing Eian Elmer led the RedHawks with 24 points while they outrebounded UMES 37-22.
Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois split their two matchups this past week, moving their record 2-2 in the early portion of the season.
The Huskies defeated Monmouth 79-66 on Tuesday before falling to Bradley on Saturday, 76-60.
Sophomore guard Quentin Jones led NIU in scoring in both contests, tallying 22 against Monmouth and 19 against Bradley.
Northern Illinois has been very efficient this season, leading the MAC with a 48.7% field goal percentage.
Ohio
The Bobcats had a tough past week, dropping both of their games and falling to 1-3 this season.
Ohio lost 85-75 to Illinois State on Tuesday before falling 94-70 to Memphis on Friday.
Redshirt sophomore guard AJ Brown was solid in both contests, scoring 20 points against Illinois State and 19 against Memphis.
Ohio’s defense has struggled so far this season. They have allowed the most opponent points per game in the MAC (85.8). The Bobcats have also allowed opponents to shoot 53.1% from the field and 53.7% on three-pointers, the worst marks in the conference.
Toledo
The Rockets won both of their games this past week, moving to a MAC-best 3-1 record this season.
Toledo defeated Wright State 86-77 on Wednesday before besting Detroit Mercy on Saturday, 82-67. UT has now won three straight games after dropping their season opener to Troy.
Toledo sophomore guard Sonny Wilson chalked up back-to-back 20-point games, scoring 20 against the Raiders and 22 against Detroit Mercy.
Toledo has shown an explosive offense early this year, leading the MAC with 83.0 points per game.
Western Michigan
Western Michigan dropped both contests this past week, falling to 1-3 on the season.
The Broncos fell to Butler by 20 points on Monday, 85-65, before losing 79-60 to SIUE on Friday.
While three players scored in double figures against Butler, senior forward Owen Lobsinger was the only player in double-digits against SIUE, finishing with 16 points.
Western Michigan’s offense has been rough early this season, scoring just 66.8 points per game, the second-lowest mark in the MAC. They are shooting 36.5% from the field and 26% on three-pointers, the worst marks in the conference.
