Mid-American Conference (MAC) Volleyball weekly awards were announced today, with junior opposite Lauryn Hovey earning the Offensive Player of the Week award following a monstrous performance in BGSU’s weekend series against the Ohio Bobcats.
Hovey functioned as the offensive engine for the Orange and Brown as they stared down a one-seed in the MAC Tournament with a sweep of Ohio.
On the weekend, the Waterloo, Ontario native put up 39 kills through two games, with 23 kills on Saturday, which served as a season-high.
In the most crucial moments, Hovey’s name was called, specifically in the fifth set on Saturday, with the junior scoring a third of the Falcon’s 15 total points with five. She also delivered the final blow on Saturday with a kill to beat the Bobcats and award the team with a MAC regular season championship.
The nomination marks the second time this month that Hovey has earned the award, as well as the tenth Offensive Player of the Week award of the opposite’s three-year career.
On the MAC stage, she also ranks sixth in the conference in kills with 357 total kills, averaging 3.37 per set.
BG will need Hovey’s continued offensive input if they want a shot at winning their first MAC Tournament Championship since 2022.
Match one for the Orange and Brown will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Stroh Center, on Mo and Jon Stansbery’s court, against the winner of the quarterfinals match between Western Michigan and Buffalo.
