BGSU Hockey’s Breck McKinley won the first weekly award of his career. The sophomore won the CCHA Defenseman of the Week (DOTW) award after a one-goal and one-assist series against St. Thomas.
On the Friday game, McKinley scored his first career goal with BGSU on a powerplay wrist shot from just inside the blue line, a game-tying goal that sent the Falcons and Tommies to overtime and eventually a shootout win. In the second game, McKinley added an assist, his second of the season.
The sophomore has played in every game this season and brought his career point total to nine (1G-8A-9P). This season, he has taken a step forward to a 0 rating (+/-) and four total blocks, as well as being the third-highest-scoring defenseman on the team.
McKinley’s award is the third weekly honor given to a Falcon this season with Brett Pfoh (FOTW- Oct. 7) and Dalton Norris (DOTW- Nov. 4).
McKinley and the Falcons next compete against Michigan Tech on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 29 and 30. The Falcon Media Sports Network’s Ben Corak will have the call of both games on WBGU 88.1 FM with pregame 15 minutes before game time.
