For the first time since 2004, three Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) teams have received a bid to the NCAA men’s soccer tournament.
With an overtime win over Bowling Green on Saturday, Evansville clinched the automatic bid to the tournament. This will be the Aces’ first tournament appearance since 1996.
Missouri State and Western Michigan both also qualified for the tournament after receiving at-large bids.
TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS:
Evansville vs. Massachusetts:
Evansville will travel to Amherst to take on UMass in the first round of the tournament on Thursday at 1 pm EST.
Evansville shocked the conference by knocking Western Michigan and Missouri State out of the MVC playoffs before defeating Bowling Green for the conference title.
UMass lost to St. Louis in PKs in the Atlantic 10 conference tournament but received an at-large bid to the NCAA playoffs. This will be the Minutemen’s sixth NCAA tournament appearance, most recently competing in 2020.
The winner of the competition will go on to face No. 6 University of Pennsylvania in the second round of the tournament.
Western Michigan vs. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE)
Western Michigan will host their first-round matchup against SIUE on Thursday at 1 pm EST.
This is the Broncos third-straight year qualifying for the College Cup,
The Broncos were defeated by Evansville in the quarterfinals of the MVC tournament but still received a bid following an impressive season.
SIUE earned an automatic bid after defeating Houston Christian in overtime of the OVC tournament championship. This will be SIUE’s 14th visit to the Division I tournament, making it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2016.
The winner of the two sides will advance to play No. 1 Ohio State in the second round.
No. 15 Missouri State receives at-large bid, as well as first-round bye:
After getting edged by Evansville 1-0 in the MVC tournament, Missouri’s season results earned them an at-large bid to the College Cup.
Not only will the Bears compete in the playoffs, but they are the 15th seed, securing a first-round bye.
Missouri State will host the winner between Saint Louis and Kansas City on Nov. 24 at 7:30 pm EST.
Saint Louis fell to Dayton 3-0 in the A-10 championship but received an at-large bid to the tournament. Kansas City received an automatic bid after defeating Denver 2-1 in the Summit League championship.
