Mid-American Conference (MAC) teams continue to compete in non-conference matchups as the 2024-2025 season nears a year old.
The Kent State Golden Flashes sit at the top of the mountain with a 4-1 record. Every team, except for Ball State, has recorded two wins on their season schedule.
Kent State (4-1)
Currently standing at the top of the MAC, Kent State sports a 4-1 record through their five non-conference games. Kent State recorded a 76-73 victory over Niagara and a 68-52 victory over Cleveland St.
Senior forward VonCameron Davis shined in the win over the Purple Eagles, scoring 15 points, grabbing three rebounds and one steal.
Davis leads the team in scoring with 16 points per game. Kent State is currently averaging 73.6 points per game.
Toledo (5-2)
Toledo currently has the most victories of anyone in the MAC with five, coming off a five-game winning streak that was snapped by an 80-45 loss to UC San Diego.
Toledo’s last victory was an 82-80 win over Jacksonville State. Toledo’s Sam Lewis, Sonny Wilson and Isaiah Adams combined for 42 points.
Wilson leads the Rockets in several categories: 16.9 points per game, 3.9 assists per game, and 56.2% shooting from the field.
Akron (3-2)
After suffering their second loss of the season against Saint Mary’s, the reigning MAC champions have strung together two wins in a row vs Lamar and Omaha.
Against Omaha, 4-5 of the Zips starters scored double-digit points in the 92-84 victory over the Mavericks. Akron’s Nate Johnson led the team in scoring with 18 points on 7-9 shooting.
Akron is recording 20.8 assists per game, which is sixth in the nation.
Central Michigan (3-2)
After beginning the season with a 1-2 record, Central Michigan has strung together two victories in a row, including a miracle 70-69 win at George Mason.
In the final seconds against George Mason, George Mason botched an inbound pass, leading to Chippewas possession, with Damarion Bonds hitting a miracle three for a 70-69 win.
Senior guard Anthony Prichard leads his team in several categories: 13.8 points per game, 5.0 assists per game, and 50.0% shooting from the field.
Eastern Michigan (5-2)
Eastern Michigan has had a back-and-forth week, with a 71-63 loss to Cleveland State before rebounding with a 68-64 victory over Cleveland State.
The Eagles’ Arne Osojnik, Da’Sean Nelson and Jalin Billingsley combined for 43 points. Osojnik lead the team with 16 points.
Eagles senior guard Jalen Terry leads the team in scoring with 16.4 points per game.
Buffalo (3-3)
After beginning the season with a 2-0 record, Buffalo has recorded a 1-3 record since then. The Bulls finally snapped a three-game losing skid with an 82-73 victory over Morgan State.
Senior guard Tyson Dunn led the team with 22 points on 9-13 shooting in the win vs Morgan State.
Buffalo is currently averaging 76.6 points per game.
Miami OH (2-2)
Miami, OH, has had a slow start to their season, trading wins and losses on their way to a 2-2 record. In their last time out, the RedHawks suffered a 94-67 loss to Michigan.
The Red Hawk’s last victory came in an 88-70 win over MD Eastern. Sophomore forward Eian Elmer scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.
Sophomore guard Kam Craft leads the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game.
Bowling Green (2-4)
Bowling Green has struggled to open the season. After a 76-68 victory over Niagara, the Falcons fell to Bellarmine in an 80-68 loss.
Bowling Green’s Marcus Johnson scored 24 points on 10-11 shooting vs the Purple Eagles. Bowling Green’s Sam Towns and Derrick Butler also scored 16 points each.
Bowling Green averages 79.3 points per game, ranking third in the MAC.
Northern Illinois (2-4)
The Huskies have suffered three losses in a row to Bradley, Elon, and Depaul.
Each of these losses has been by double-digit points, with a 76-60 loss to Bradley, a 75-48 loss to Elon and a 98-52 loss to Depaul.
Despite the struggles, sophomore guard Quentin Jones averages 14.7 points per game.
Ohio (2-4)
After suffering three losses in a row, Ohio finally turned their season back on track with an 85-73 victory over Portland.
Senior forward Aj Clayton scored a team and season-high 34 points vs Portland.
Clayton leads the team with 16.3 points per game and 7.0 rebounds.
Western Michigan (2-4)
After a 92-69 win vs Canisius, Western Michigan fell in an 80-76 loss to South Dakota, falling to a 2-4 record on the season.
In the win over Canisius, five players for the Broncos recorded double-digit points.
Junior forward Markhi Strickland led the team in scoring in both contests, scoring 15 vs Canisius and 20 points in the loss against South Dakota.
Ball State (1-4)
The only team in the MAC that has not won two victories is Miami (OH). They have also lost three in a row, losing 70-59 against Detroit Mercy in their last time out.
One of the few positives of the season for the Cardinals has been the play of junior guard Jermahri Hill, averaging 15.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
