On Tuesday afternoon, BGSU tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Alex Bayer was named one of 65 coaches in the country nominated for the Broyles Award.
The Broyles Award has been given to the top assistant coach in college football each year since 1996.
The winner of this year’s award will be announced on Feb. 13, 2025.
Bayer has had the honor of coaching Harold Fannin Jr., who leads the nation in receiving yards (1,295) this year.
Before coaching, Bayer earned two All-MAC honors as a tight end at BGSU. He finished his collegiate career with 115 receptions and 1,543 receiving yards, both of which were program records at the time.
Bayer is the only nominee from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Only one assistant coach from the MAC has ever been a finalist for this award — Stan Parrish for Ball State in 2009.
