BGSU hockey (7-7-2, 4-4-2) finished their home series against Northern Michigan (1-16-1, 0-11-1) with a 4-3 victory.
The Falcons started hot, with their first two shots on goal resulting in the early 2-0 lead courtesy of Jaden Grant and Ville Immonen. The Wildcats came within striking distance toward the end of the first period, cutting the deficit in half with a four on four goal. Soon after, Tommy Pasanen was assessed a five-minute major penalty for making contact to the head of a Wildcat, earning a suspension for the Falcons’ next game, a home contest against RIT.
18 seconds of five on three hockey wasn’t enough for the Wildcats, who ultimately weren’t able to capitalize in the remainder of the five-minute major power play.
The Orange and Brown continued to control the game in the 2nd period, substantially outpacing the Wildcats in shots and shots on goal throughout. Despite this, the scoreboard read the same 2-1 at the end of the period.
Around six minutes into the 3rd period the Wildcats silenced the Slater Family Ice Arena by scoring a tying goal. Brody Waters responded with just over eight minutes remaining, finding the net for his seventh goal of the year. As the clock waned Waters again managed to score, stretching the lead to 4-2. Under a minute to play the Wildcats found the net once more but it was too little too late, as the Falcons were able to close out the win.
Other stats:
- Christian Stoever posted a .875 save percentage (21/24).
- Waters stretched his team lead in goals, adding two for a total of eight on the season.
- The sweep marks the third series sweep of the season for the Falcons, and the second CCHA sweep (Mercyhurst, Ferris State).
The Falcons return to action on Dec. 29 when they host RIT for a 7:07 puck drop.
