BGSU hockey (9-7-2, 5-4-2 CCHA) finished their first game of 2025 at Taffy Abel Arena against Lake Superior State University (8-10-1, 6-4 CCHA) Friday night with a shutout victory of 3-0.
Both teams had a slow start during the first period, but things began to pick up for the Falcons halfway through the period. Senior forward Ryan O’Hara made the first goal of the night on a BGSU power play, making the score 1-0.
Only three minutes later, sophomore forward Brody Waters scored on another BGSU power play, making the last goal of the first period and ending with a score of 2-0.
The Falcons didn’t see much action during the second period of the game, but they did find themselves having more control of the game rather than the Lakers. They lead in both shots and face-off wins during the second period.
Going into the third and last period of the game, the tensions between the Falcons and the Lakers seemed to rise as LSSU found themselves getting more defensive, leading in penalties in this last period.
There was another slow start to the third period as well, both teams fighting for the puck as they raced up and down the ice, but ultimately, no goals were scored until the end of the period with three minutes left in the game. O’Hara made his second goal of the night, causing the Falcons to lead 3-0 and win the game.
BGSU hockey looks bright going into the new year after this win, with the evidence found in both strong offense and defense shining through in this game.
The Falcons will play Lake Superior State University once again at Taffy Abel Arena on Jan. 4 to continue their conference.
