Bowling Green swim & dive traveled to Miami, Florida, this past weekend in a dual meet against Barry University and Simon Fraiser University.
From the very start, the Falcons managed to take control of the meet, taking home twin victories which put the Orange and Brown at 6-1 on the season in dual meets.
One of the biggest moments of the day came relatively early in the meet when BG locked up the top three spots in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 200 butterfly. Junior Emily McNichol topped the 100 backstroke at 58.65 seconds, junior Grace Bodrock topped the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.74 seconds, as well as a first-place speed of 2:07.23 in the 200 butterfly.
McNichol continued her great day as she placed first in the competition with a 2:08.14 time in the 200 backstroke. The 200 breaststroke was also dominated by the Orange and Brown, who had two places in the top three, with graduate student Ava Vial leading the way at a time of 2:22.65.
When it came to the freestyle, junior Samia Becdach dominated, winning both the 50 freestyle (23.84) and the 100 freestyle (51.70).
In the 500 freestyle, sophomore Abby Toepfer led the way, taking first place with a time of 5:15.14.
The final event of the day was also painted a bright Orange and Brown as a team of sophomore Sierra Newton, Becdach, McNichols, and Bodrock combined for the winning time of 3:34.47 in the 400 relays.
Bowling Green will make a return home to face off against Marshall at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Cooper Pool in Bowling Green.
