BGSU hockey’s senior goaltender Christian Stoever has backed up his CCHA Goaltender of the Month performance in December of 2024 with a Goaltender of the Week performance in the first week of 2025.
In BG’s six-point weekend against Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Stoever started both games allowing only one goal in the second game and 71 total saves across both Falcon wins. The 3-0 victory in the first game marked his second shutout of the season, the sixth of his career while being only one behind Minnesota State’s net-minder Alex Tracy in 2024-25.
Coming into the only CCHA matchup of the weekend, the Lakers led the conference in goals, assists, shot percentage, and points with a second-place power play and face-off winning percentage. After the defensive stand from the Falcons and the wall that was Stoever, LSSU fell to third in goals, assists, points, and second in shot percentage, single-handedly from Bowling Green on Jan. 3 and 4.
This is Stoever’s fifth Goaltender of the Week award, first in 2024-25, after his outstanding end to 2024 earned him a monthly honor.
Bolstered by Stoever, the Falcons completed their third CCHA sweep of the season (Ferris State, Northern Michigan, Lake Superior State) and rose to a tie with Michigan Tech for third place in points percentage (23 points in 12 games).
Their next game will be in the Slater Family Ice Arena on Friday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Jan. 11, against the Bemidji State Beavers at 7:07. Ben Corak and Sean Connelly from the Falcon Media Sports Network will have the call starting at 6:45 each game on WBGU 88.1 FM.
