In a Saturday afternoon matchup at the Stroh Center, the Bowling Green Falcons (7-10, 2-3) fell to the Eastern Michigan Eagles (8-9, 2-3), 68-62.
This loss marks the first time that the Bowling Green Falcons have lost at home to Eastern Michigan since the 2017-18 season.
“Disappointing performance, we prepared better than this and to score 62 points on 35% shooting at home is not expectable for us.” Head Coach Todd Simon stated postgame. “We will get back, roll up our sleeves, and get to work”
The Falcons opened the game up with a Derrick Butler fadeaway two.
In the following defensive possession for Bowling Green, Jamai Felt had an emphatic block that would lead to a Marcus Johnson 3-pointer.
A three by Eastern Michigan guard Arne Osojnik would spark the Eagles to go on a quick nine-point run making the score 21-12.
BGSU would not go away as they would end the First half going on a 14- to 8-point run led by Senior Guard Trey Thomas with six points during this run.
The first half of basketball would end with the Falcons trailing the Eagles 26-29.
Coming out of halftime the Orange and Brown would go on a ten-to-four-point run led by Thomas with four points and give the Falcons the lead back 36-33.
After both teams traded some layups Osojnik would spark the Eagles onto a 3-point explosion as they would knock down four threes in a row and extend the lead 47-53.
Bowling Green would not stop as they fought their way back and with a Felt layup brought the lead within one point at 62-63.
After a couple of Eastern Michigan free throws, the lead was back to three and then Jalen Terry hit a back-breaking 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining to seal the game for Eastern Michigan at 62-68.
As a team, the Falcons only were able to get four assists and that will be an area that they look to improve as the season rolls on.
“Too many games we have under ten assists and that’s part of the reason why we are shooting bad” Johnson Stated. “Once we start to share the ball more the shots will start to fall.”
The Falcons are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 as they travel to Millett Hall to take on the Miami Redhawks at 7 pm. Falcon Media Sports Network’s Tyler Kavalecz and Artie Abrego will have the call.
