The hottest streak in the CCHA cooled off Saturday night as the BGSU hockey (12-8-3, 8-5-3 CCHA) suffered their first loss since Dec. 7 of last year against the Ferris State Bulldogs (7-15-2, 6-10-0 CCHA), falling 4-3 on the road.
Bowling Green jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, courtesy of goals from Quinn Emerson and Brody Waters. Goaltender Cole Moore got the start for the Falcons and kept a clean sheet through the first frame of play.
Ferris State was able to find the net for the first time in the second period and then equalized in the waning minutes of that period to enter the final period tied up.
Less than four minutes into the third period, the Bulldogs claimed a lead that they never conceded. An additional goal stretched the deficit to two, and despite a late Dalton Norris goal with nearly eight minutes to play, the Bulldogs’ lead would prove too substantial.
Despite the loss, the Falcons are still positioned in 3rd in the CCHA, where they entered the Saturday contest.
The game notably marked the first outing in some time from goaltender Cole Moore, who’s primarily ridden the pine recently in the wake of Senior Christian Stoever’s elite performances. Moore himself posted a save percentage of .88 on the night, with 34 saves total in the matchup.
The Orange and Brown will look to get back in the win column in a tough series against the Augustana Vikings this weekend at the Slater Family Ice Arena. This matchup between the second and third teams in the CCHA will carry major seeding implications looking ahead to the CCHA tournament.
