BGSU baseball junior two-way star DJ Newman has been named a Preseason First-Team All-American by D1Baseball, the organization announced Tuesday.
The announcement comes on the heels of Newman being named a preseason Second-Team All-American by Perfect Game USA earlier this month.
Newman has already earned numerous awards and honors throughout his first two seasons as a Falcon.
In 2023, he was named a First-Team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) selection as a designated hitter and MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year. He also received nods as a Baseball American, D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American.
Last year, he earned Second-Team All-MAC honors as a designated hitter.
Newman batted .371 with a 1.119 OPS, tallying 10 home runs, 37 runs batted in (RBI), six doubles, three triples and 10 stolen bases in 35 games at the plate last year. He also went 2-4 on the mound with a 3.61 earned run average (ERA) in eight games, striking out 42 batters in 42.1 innings pitched.
In his BG career, Newman holds a .376 batting average, .466 on-base percentage, .592 slugging percentage and 1.058 OPS and has tallied 11 home runs, 48 RBI, 11 doubles, five triples and 19 stolen bases in 76 games. He also holds a career 7-4 record with a 3.57 ERA, 75 strikeouts and 15 walks over 70.2 innings pitched in 23 games and 11 starts as a pitcher.
Newman and the Falcons will begin their 2025 season with a three-game series against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, beginning on Friday, Feb. 14.
