In a Tuesday night road trip matchup, BGSU men’s basketball (7-11, 2-4) lost to the Miami RedHawks (14-4, 6-0), 84-76.
This loss marks the second straight Mid-American Conference (MAC) loss for the Falcons and now two consecutive losses against Miami.
“I thought the energy level was just exceptional, and there is not much left in any of those tanks. So, I’m proud of them for that,” head coach Todd Simon stated after the game.
The first half of basketball saw plenty of back-and-forth action as the team exchanged leads 10 times.
The Orange and Brown opened up the scoring with a three from Marcus Johnson.
Redshirt Freshman Jamai Felt and Junior Javontae Campbell would both join in the early Falcon’s scoring run with layups to put the BG up 7-2.
Miami would not be deterred by this early run as they would reclaim the lead with a dunk by Reece Potter.
Senior guard Derrick Butler would retie the game at 14 points apiece with a 3-point basket.
As the first half came to an end it would be the Falcons taking a one-point lead heading into halftime with the lead set at 40-39.
The second half of basketball started with Butler, Johnson, and Felt all contributing to a quick seven-to-two-point run.
Miami would charge back into the game, and tie it at 49 all, behind some tough offensive rebounding putbacks from Kam Craft.
Later in the second half the Miami RedHawks would extend the lead to 13 points behind seven points from Mekhi Cooper.
The Falcons would not go down without a fight as they would charge back and make it a one-score game, 77-76 after a Trey Thomas got the midrange jumper to fall.
“Try to extract the good from this game… Keep it very close to the facts, don’t get outside of those solutions and tomorrow is all about Toledo.” Coach Simon stated.
The Falcons have done an excellent job at extracting the good and changing the bad from their game. In the game against Eastern Michigan, they only tallied four assists. As they took on Miami, they changed all that and had 18 assists on 25 made shots.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday, Jan. 24 as they return home to the Stroh Center to take on the Toledo Rockets. Falcon Media Sports Network’s Tyler Kavalecz and Artie Abrego will have the call.
