The ground floor of Founders Hall flooded late Thursday morning following a pipe burst and various water issues on campus, according to multiple student accounts.
University officials attributed the damage, which affected 12 rooms on the west side of the building, to cold weather affecting internal water mains. Students like Rea Clark who live on the ground floor were evacuated outside and closed out from their rooms.
“A pipe burst outside my hallway while I was getting ready for class. We had to evacuate, and when I left, the water was creeping up to my door,” Clark said. “We aren’t allowed to go back in.”
Students living in affected rooms will be temporarily moved to available dorms across campus while the damage is assessed and fixed. There is no word yet from BGSU or Campus Operations as to what residence halls students are being moved to and how soon the issue will be resolved, but Clark said her RA confirmed that help is on the way.
“My RA said there are 20 to 30 people working on removing the water,” Clark said.
BG Falcon Media will update the story as new information unfolds.
