BGSU women’s basketball (11-11, 5-6) traveled to Muncie, Indiana to take on the Ball State Cardinals (19-4, 11-0) falling 71-51 on the road and suffering their sixth Mid-American Conference (MAC) loss of the season.
Bowling Green’s two-game winning streak in the Mid-American Conference snapped with the loss against Ball State.
Here is how the game went:
The Cardinals would open the scoring for both teams with a long two from Alex Richard.
Bowling Green would answer right back with a three from sophomore guard Paige Kohler.
Fifth-year guard Lexi Fleming would get her night started with a three of her own to give the Orange and Brown a two-point lead.
Ball State would end the first quarter on a six-point run capped off by threes from Madelyn Bischoff and Ally Becki giving the Cardinals a 19-11-point lead.
The second quarter would start with a Kohler layup. Then Johnea Donahue got her first basket of the game off an offensive rebound put-back.
Ball State would take control of the game in the second quarter as they went on an 18-five-point run to close the quarter. That run was led by Becki with six points and Maliyah Johnson with four points.
The Cardinals would take a commanding 19-point lead going into the break leading the Falcons 39-20.
Coming out of the halftime break it would be Amy Velasco to get the teams started with a nifty layup.
The Cardinals would quickly find a groove out of the break though as they put together a nine-point run led by Richards with six.
It would be Bischoff capping off the third quarter for the Cardinals with back-to-back threes to make the score 57-40.
Entering the fourth quarter Kohler would hit a quick three-pointer.
After that three it would be all Ball State as they closed out the game to win 71-51 over the Falcons.
Bowling Green would struggle to keep the Cardinals off the board as they were able to grab 47 rebounds with 17 of those being offensive boards.
The Orange and Brown were able to force Ball State into 16 turnovers today and those turnovers lead to 13 BGSU points.
The Falcons are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8 as they head to Jonesboro, Ark. to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves as a part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
