After consecutive games where the Falcons’ offense was lights out, BGSU suffered their sixth Mid-American Conference (MAC) loss of the season yesterday in Muncie, 71-51.
“We needed to screen a little better and play a little more aggressive on the offensive end in the first half. I’m not sure that we did that,” assistant coach John Nicolais said after the game. “Just a little bit timid. I don’t know that we were necessarily shot-ready.”
Bowling Green went through numerous periods without points. They also missed 39 of their 60 shots, their second most this season.
“ I mean shots didn’t fall for us. I felt like we had good looks,” Nicolais said. “We had some pretty good looks around the rim, too. Those fall, maybe it looks a little bit different puts a little more pressure on them. We’ve got to do a better job.”
As a team, they also had 10 assists, their lowest since December. Their leader in assists, senior Amy Velasco, had zero in the contest.
They also turned the ball over 13 times, leading to 18 Cardinal points.
“ We didn’t really convert. We would get out and transition and those are kind of big momentum plays that we missed out on,” sophomore Paige Kohler said.
Kohler was one of the bright spots for BG, scoring 15 and shooting 33.3 percent from the floor. Both were team highs.
Another category the Orange and Brown were outplayed in was rebounding. They were outrebounded 17 to 10 offensively and 31 to 21 defensively. The Cardinals mustard together 16 second-chance points off of their rebounds to the Falcons 11.
We do have to do a better job of rebounding. They did get us on the glass pretty good tonight,” Nicolais said.
The Falcons will look to redeem themselves this Saturday as they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to battle the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a break from MAC play.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Lucas Kleimeyer will call the game on WBGU 88.1 FM starting at 2:45 p.m.
