On Friday, Feb. 7, three members of the BGSU women’s track team made the trip to Ashland University to compete in the fourth ever Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational meet.
The biggest performance from the representing Orange and Brown came from Pataskala, Ohio, native junior Jenna Lucas, who placed fifth among opponents in the pentathlon.
Featuring five total events, which are the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800-meter race, Lucas finished in the top 13 in every event.
The best leg of the day for the junior was shotput where Lucas finished second (12.55m), she also finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.25), 10th in the long jump (5.12m), 11th in the high jump (1.56m) and 13th in in the 800 meter (2:38:31).
Graduate student from Willoughby, Ohio, Katherine Mendenhall, also participated in the pentathlon, taking on the 60-meter hurdles, shotput, long jump, and high jump, however, she earned a did not start (DNS) in the 800-meter race, which caused her not to result in a score.
Only one other Falcon participated in the invitational, graduate student thrower Trista Fintel, who transferred to BGSU from Findlay for the 2024-2025 season.
Fintel participated in the weight throw event where she tossed 19.18 meters, which earned her fourth in the “elite” section of the competition as well as earning her a top ten distance in program history.
The next test for the Falcons comes on Saturday, Feb. 8. with the Orange and Brown sending some of their players up to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete in the Michigan Invitational.
Throwers will start competing at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with BGSU competing in running events, starting at 11:40 a.m.
