This past Friday night, BGSU hockey (15-9-4) (11-6-4) returned home to the Slater Family Ice Arena to take on the visiting St. Thomas Tommies (11-13-5) (8-9-4) for another CCHA showdown.
The game was ultimately dominated by the Orange and Brown as they were able to capture the victory 4-1. Many of the Falcons were, of course, big contributors to this one-sided affair. Including sophomore goalie Cole Moore.
Moore recorded 24 saves on the night, six in the first period, eight in the second, and 10 in the final period.
Moore stepped up in the best way possible, as BG’s main goalie, senior Christian Stoever, was not seen in uniform that night, one of the key components that the squad led by head coach Dennis Williams very much depended on.
But this game showed why having a good goaltending tandem is quintessential to the game of hockey. Moore was on pace to have a shutout night, but a goal late in the going from St. Thomas junior forward Caige Sterzer ended that possibility.
Despite the shutout being diminished from happening, Moore’s performance can still be looked at as one of the major bright spots of the night.
Coach Williams then expressed how happy he felt to see the youngster make some noise while also commenting on his work ethic. “I’m really happy for Cole; the last few starts, he’s probably not gotten the results that he’s wanted,” Williams said. “He stays battled, he watches video a lot, and he stays on the ice extra a lot. I was really hoping to see him get that shutout, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.”
Moore will have another chance to get himself a shutout, as the Falcons and Tommies will once again face off in the Slater Family Ice Arena, Saturday, Feb. 8, with puck drop at 7:07 p.m.
