On Saturday (Feb. 8) at 2 p.m., BGSU men’s basketball (8-14, 3-7) take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at the Stroh Center in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
This will be the first meeting between these two programs, meaning CCU is the 326th opponent the BG men’s basketball team has faced.
Bowling Green is coming off a hard-fought win against NIU on Tuesday (Feb. 4), in which the Falcons defeated the Huskies 84-77.
Oppositely, Coastal Carolina is on a nine-game losing streak, taking a loss against South Alabama 84-59 in their last matchup on Wednesday.
The Chanticleers are 8-16 on the year and 1-11 in conference play. This CCU squad hasn’t won a game since Jan. 4th against ULM.
As a team, Coastal shoots at a 44% clip from the field and 34% from three. The team also averages 38 boards and 11.4 assists per game.
If the Falcons want to get two straight wins, they will need to out-rebound the Chanticleers, something they have failed to do against other opponents all season.
BG averages two fewer rebounds than the teams they face, while the Chanticleers snag about three more boards than their opposition this season.
FALCON FOUR PLAYERS TO WATCH
The redshirt freshman Felt has shown up for the Falcons all season long, being a quiet yet dangerous force on the glass, grabbing boards and second-chance points.
Felt has a season average of five points and six boards, being nothing short of consistent since taking on a starting role.
The forward also has 34 blocks this season, using his 6’10” frame to make it difficult for anyone to score inside.
#3 DaJion Humphrey, Bowling Green
As the season has progressed, so have the Falcons’ injuries and Humphrey’s minutes. Although the senior guard doesn’t need to put up big numbers on the stat sheet, he needs to make an impact through defense and important threes.
In the last game against NIU, Humphrey had a season-high 24 minutes on the floor. The guard had 11 points on 57% shooting, going 3-5 from beyond the arc and helping the Orange and Brown get the win.
#15 Jordan Battle, Coastal Carolina
Junior guard Battle had a season-high 23 points on 7-14 shooting in the loss against South Alabama. It’s worth noting that although he’s never done it before, the Coastal guard only shot threes in this contest.
Battle is a consistent three-point shooter, posting a 40% clip from deep. And to go along with the seven who made threes last game, Battle also had two assists and five rebounds.
#21 Noah Amenhauser, Coastal Carolina
This sophomore center is 7’2” and 255 pounds. If it weren’t for that frame, one might never have guessed he was a basketball player with his friendly face and thick, round-framed glasses.
But Amenhauser is a dog for the Chanticleers. He raked in 10 points, nine boards, and two blocks for CCU in their last game. Jamai Felt will have his large hands full with the Coastal center on Saturday.
Make sure to tune in to this MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup via Falcon Radio, where Tyler Kavalecz and Artie Abrego will have the call starting at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 8).
