Bowling Green improved to 10-15 on their 24-25 season as they defeated their Mid-American Conference (MAC) foe, the Buffalo Bulls, by a final score of 63-59, completing the season sweep of the Bulls.
Here’s how it went down:
First Half
The first 20 minutes of the contest were closely contested.
BGSU junior guard Javontae Campbell and senior guard Derrick Butler both physically battled their way to the rim, resulting in multiple three-point plays and giving BG a four-point advantage after seven minutes, 14-10.
The highlights didn’t stop there for these two — Campbell swiped the ball away from Buffalo and Butler went all the way to the basket for a one-handed slam, putting the Falcons back up by four points.
Bowling Green senior guards Trey Thomas and Dajion Humphrey hit back-to-back 3-pointers to extend the Orange and Brown’s lead to 22-15.
Bowling Green was up by just a lone point at the half, 28-27.
Butler led the Falcons in scoring with seven points, while the Bull’s Tyson Dunn led with six points.
Second half
Humphrey opened the second half strong for the Falcons, connecting on a three, the score standing at 31-27.
As the half dwindled on, Campbell hit back-to-back layups, causing the Bulls to use a timeout halfway through the second half, down 44-39.
With time dwindling down in the half, Buffalo managed to get the score within two, down 59-57.
However, Campbell fought his way to the rim, scoring his 20th point of the afternoon to put the Falcons up four points with under thirty seconds left in the game.
Bowling Green senior forward Marcus Johnson nailed two free throws to seal the deal for the Orange and Brown, defeating the Bulls for the second time this season, 63-59.
Campbell finished with 20 points on 8-11 shooting, leading his team to victory against their MAC opponents. Anquan Boldin Jr led the Bulls with 12 points on 5-9 shooting from the field.
Bowling Green improves to 10-15 on the season with a 4-8 record against the MAC, while Buffalo drops to 8-17 on the year with a 3-9 record against the conference.
Next, Bowling Green returns to the Stroh Center on Feb. 18 to take on Kent State.
