BGSU gymnastics (2-7) (0-4) lost the match against Western Michigan (4-6) (1-2 MAC) at the Stroh Center early Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons continue to struggle to capture their first win in the MAC this season, with the final score of the meet being Western Michigan 195.325 to Bowling Green 192.275.
Today’s meet was honoring National Girls and Woman in Sports Day and Think Pink, a theme that means a lot to head coach Brittney Emmons.
“Honestly, it’s amazing to be out there and work with such powerful and strong women. We’re at a level where we’re helping them to not only be successful in the gym but also outside of it, Emmons said postmeet. “It has always been an uphill battle, but we are continuing to lay the groundwork to build upon for what’s next for women in sports.”
Vault
The vault was the first event Bowling Green took on Sunday evening, with Katrina Mendez-Abolnik scoring the highest out of all of BGSU’s total gymnasts with a total score of 9.800.
Still, Sarah Moravansky and Halle Faulkner of Western Michigan hold the top scores from this event, with a total score of 9.825. The total score for this event was 49.000-48.625, as Western Michigan took the vault.
The total score of 48.625 for BGSU sets third this season for the total vault score of the year.
Uneven Bars
Western Michigan first started this event with the uneven bar, which led to Reese Samuelson scoring the most of all the gymnasts, 9.850.
Bowling Green’s Megan Bingham scored 9.775, tying Molly Freeman and Julie Korfhage of Western Michigan in this event.
The total score for this event was Western Michigan’s beating Bowling Green 48.725-47.425.
On the bright side, this is Megan Bingham’s season high for the uneven bar, and she looks to continue her strong year.
Balance Beam
Faya Dubin achieves a new career high, having previously held a score of 9.575, and raises this to her new career high of 9.700. Similarly, Teegan Milligan sets a career-high with a score of 9.450, improving upon her previous career high of 9.400

The total score for this event still favors Western Michigan as they take the highest score at 48.825-47.975.
Floor Exercise
Finally, Western Michigan continues to dominate the run today for the floor exercise as BGSU didn’t win a single event at 48.775-48.300.
However, Keira Thornton tied in at the top of this event with three other Western Michigan gymnasts: Ally Schaupp, Julie Korfhage, and Makenna King at 9.775 to make it a four-way tie.
“There were definitely some highlights today, but there were also things we need to get into the gym and work on, particularly bars and beam,” Bingham said. “We just need to learn from the mistakes we made today, and be able to apply those when we go to Temple next week.”
Bowling Green’s next meet will be at Temple in Philadelphia, on Friday, Feb. 21, at 6:00 p.m.
