On Tuesday, BGSU men’s basketball (10-15, 4-8) will welcome the Kent State Golden Flashes (17-8, 7-5) to the Stroh Center.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Tyler Kavalecz and Artie Abrego will have the call on Falcon Radio at 6:45 p.m. for pregame and 7 p.m. for tip-off.
Matchup History
This matchup will be the 174 all-time meeting between the two schools, with the winner breaking the perfectly even tie of wins between the two teams, which is stuck at 87 apiece.
Fortunately for the Falcons, they hold a 52-31 record at home against Kent State. Unfortunately, the Orange and Brown have lost 11 straight games to the Golden Flashes.
Kent State won the last meeting against Bowling Green earlier this season, 75-57 on Jan. 28 in Kent.
Scouting Bowling Green
Although Bowling Green holds a less than stellar 4-8 record in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), they are still well within range of making the MAC Tournament.
The Falcons look to keep the ball rolling after a win over the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday. In the win, junior guard Javontae Campbell led the team in scoring with 20 points and added two steals. As a team, BGSU was able to tally 11 steals and six blocks.
On the offensive end, the Falcons will have to find a way to get Marcus Johnson started early and keep him in a good rhythm throughout the game. Johnson ranks second in the MAC with 16.4 points per game.
Scouting Kent State
Although the Golden Flashes escaped a matchup against the Ohio Bobcats with a 76-75 win in their last game, they still are one of the top dogs in the MAC. The victory extending their current winning streak to four games, the second-longest streak in the MAC.
Kent State holds the best defense in the MAC by far, holding opponents to an average of 66.0 points per game.
KSU is also a solid rebounding team. They rank second in the conference with 12.4 offensive rebounds per game and fourth with 36 total boards per game.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
Jamai Felt (Bowling Green #11)
The big man in the paint for Bowling Green leads the MAC with 38 blocks.
Felt is coming off a tough game where he scored just two points against Buffalo.
Derrick Butler (Bowling Green #10)
Butler has been the spark off the bench for the Orange and Brown in recent games, scoring double-digit points in three of the past four games.
Butler ranks third on the Falcons with 13.7 points per game.
Delrecco Gillespie (Kent State #23)
The rebounding machine for Kent State is fifth in the MAC with 7.1 rebounds per game.
He has grabbed double-digit rebounds in three of the past four games while notching multiple offensive boards in five straight contests.
Medley is an extremely reliable passer and looks to find the open man before getting his own shot.
In KSU’s last game against BGSU he knotted a season-high of 10 assists while recording his only double-double this season.
