BGSU women’s tennis (7-3) beat the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers (4-2) in a Friday afternoon matchup at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
The Falcons won the matchup with a score of 5-2, and the win bounced them back into the winning column.
“This team beat us last year so we’re excited to get a little vengeance and get ready for spring break,” head coach Mike Bonnell said.
The competition began with Lucia Gaio and Leticia Fonseca jumping out to a quick lead in the doubles category for the Falcons where they won 6-1, en route to a team sweep of the doubles.
In singles action sophomore Tia Clemens would fight for every point in a competitive matchup that she would take home 6-2 and 7-5.
“I would say that the biggest thing that I told myself is one point at a time, just focus on not the game score, not the set score, just each point and just battle for each point,” Clemens said.
With this road trip comes new preparation for the Falcons as they will have to deal with the elements on the road.
“There’s no indoor tennis down there, we got the sun, the wind, we got everything to deal with, so it will be great competition,” Bonnell said.
Next for the Falcons is a road trip to Florida where they take on Saginaw Valley State on March 3 and Loyola (Md.) on March 4.
