BGSU baseball (5-4) bounced back with a 4-1 win over Southern Indiana (6-4) in their last non-conference series of the season after taking a 4-1 loss earlier in the day to Southern Illinois (6-3).
The Orange and Brown came out strong and scored in the bottom of the first inning. A DJ Newman single put runners at the corners, which was enough for Brady Birchmeier to get into a fielder choice and score the runner from third.
Birchmeier continued his impressive day with an RBI single through the right side in the third inning, scoring Garret Wright, who was hit by a pitch earlier. Wright was hit by two pitches during the game today.
The Falcons pulled off a double steal in the third inning, scoring Newman to make the score 3-0.
Nic Good took the mound for BGSU, having an incredible outing. Good completed seven scoreless innings, striking out nine batters in the process. Nine strikeouts is a new career high for Good, also the most for the team this season.
Connar Penrod closed the game out for the Falcons, striking out five in 1.2 innings. This was Penrod’s first save of the season.
BGSU recorded three RBIs in the game along with five hits. Southern Indiana outhit the Falcons with nine hits on the day.
The Falcons end their non-conference series Sunday against Southern Illinois at 1 p.m. Following that, BGSU will be back in Ohio for a matchup against Dayton on Wednesday, March 5.
