BGSU baseball (5-5) fell 8-6 to Southern Illinois (7-3) on the road on Sunday afternoon, dropping their third game in the past four contests, while the Salukis won their sixth straight.
Junior two-way player DJ Newman led the Falcons with three hits, while senior outfielder Caden Parker paced the team with two runs batted in (RBI).
While BG tallied 13 hits and drew six walks, they left 12 runners on base and gave up six extra-base hits, including three home runs.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Owen Poole suffered his second loss of the season.
The Falcons jumped out in front early, with Parker driving in senior infielder Gunner Antillon and Newman on a bases-loaded single in the top of the first, putting the Falcons ahead 2-0.
However, back-to-back home runs in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth gave Southern Illinois a 4-2 lead.
BGSU starter Jacob Turner did not get a decision, giving up four runs on six hits in four innings pitched. He struck out four and walked one.
Bowling Green did not go down without a fight, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a one-run lead, 5-4.
Parker scored on a triple by junior infielder Sam Seidel before sophomore pitcher and outfielder Brock Amelung drove in Seidel for his first collegiate RBI. Later in the frame, junior catcher Garrett Wright drove in freshman outfielder Chase Chopin with a double.
The Falcons extended their lead the next inning, with Newman scoring on a fielding error on a ball put into play by junior catcher Cooper McKenzie.
However, it was all downhill for Bowling Green from here.
Poole and junior right-handed pitcher Kade Arn struggled out of the bullpen, giving up four combined runs on five hits in two innings.
Next, the Orange and Brown will return to Ohio to face Dayton on the road on Wednesday at 3 p.m., their final game before the start of conference play.
