BGSU men’s basketball junior guard Javontae Campbell has been named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
It is the second honor Campbell has received this season after being named MAC Player of the Week on Dec. 30. Campbell shares this week’s honor with Western Michigan’s Chansey Willis Jr.
Campbell recently broke the program record for steals in a season. He has 85 steals this year, leading the MAC, ranking fourth in the country and tied for the sixth-most in a single season in MAC history.
“What an absolute stud. I mean, there should be, not an even an asterisk next to that; he should put a star around it for a kid to go do that with a broken hand on top of all things,” BGSU head coach Todd Simon said. “What a special player, special human being; can’t say enough things about him.”
The Muskogee, Oklahoma, native has scored at least 20 points in five straight games, averaging 25.5 points per game in contests against Eastern Michigan and Ball State this past week.
Next, Campbell and the Falcons continue to battle for a spot in the MAC Tournament, heading on the road to face Northern Illinois on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before returning to the Stroh Center to face Western Michigan to end the regular season on Friday at 7 p.m.
