BGSU softball fell by a final score of 9-5 against Coastal Carolina on Monday. BG started strong, with four runs in the first two innings, but Coastal rallied in innings four and five to steal the victory.
Katie Hutter went 3-for-4 with a walk, and Addie Martin started the game with back-to-back home runs.
A notable sidebar regarding home runs: the Falcons have hit 10 homers in 16 games, already topping their 2024 total. Last year, it took 44 games for the team to hit just eight home runs.
The game was also the first in which the Falcons hit back-to-back dingers in three years.
At the bottom of the second, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers scored three runs.
Coastal took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Chanticleers started five pitchers throughout the contest but still managed to limit the Falcons to nine hits.
Although the Falcons finished errorless, they struggled to match Coastal’s offensive production. Though each team finished with the same number of hits, Coastal Carolina had a 100% conversion rate, turning all nine of their hits into runs.
Overall, the Falcons played a clean and effective game but struggled down the stretch against a non-conference opponent. The Orange and Brown will finish their extra-conference schedule in the Hoosier Classic, beginning on March 7.
