BGSU men’s soccer have added another defender to their roster in preparation for the 2025 season, signing Brazilian defender Giovanni Soares.
A native of Campinas, Brazil, Soares played the last two seasons at William Carey University. In 2023 he appeared in 18 matches, making 15 starts and eventually being named to the 2023 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) All-Tournament Team.
In 2024, Soares appeared in 21 games for the Crusaders while starting 20 games. He finished his career with the program scoring three goals and tallied one assist in 2,982 total minutes with William Carey.
Before his time at William Carey, Soares played for Iowa Central Community College in 2022. Scoring four goals in 15 matches played.
Soares is the second Brazilian defender the Falcons have acquired this spring, with Caio Tascheto being announced earlier in the week.
