Bowling Green baseball (9-5, 3-0) has been on a tear to open the 2025 season, soaring to a tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in their opening conference series against the Ohio Bobcats.
The Orange and Brown now go from their first conference game to their first home game with a match scheduled against the Tiffin Dragons (8-7, 0-0) on Tuesday at Steller Field, with first pitch being thrown at 3 p.m.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Tyler Kavalecz and Noah Seeley will have the call on WBGU 88.1 FM, starting at 2:40 p.m. for pregame. A recap of the game will be up shortly after the score goes final by Carter Leonard.
Matchup History
It may not seem like it, but the Falcons have a relatively old history with the Dragons dating back to March 9, 1985, which saw a 10-8 BGSU win.
Following that game, the two teams met up five more times from 1985 to 2008, with the Orange and Brown taking the lead in the series 5-1, winning the most recent game 16-8 in Bowling Green in 2008.
Scouting Bowling Green
Falcon batting benefitted from a 24-run weekend against the Bobcats that pushed BGSU to second in batting in the conference with a 0.286 batting average.
Pitching is also holding steady at fourth in the MAC with a 5.90 earned run average (ERA) alongside a conference-high two triples allowed, which is the best in the MAC.
A weakness for BGSU’s pitching has been the long ball, which means the Falcons on the mound do occasionally get mashed, allowing the second most home runs in the MAC with 19.
Scouting Tiffin
Despite not being as mainstream of a team as the Falcons, the Dragons do manage to hold their own, sitting third in the north division of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) with a winning percentage of 0.533, which is third among all 12 conference teams.
On paper, Tiffin matches up very similarly to Bowling Green, with a 0.282 batting average, which is third in the GMAC. The Dragons also have the most hits (146), doubles (31) and RBIs (90) in their conference.
Their pitchers also are eerily similar to BGSU’s staff as the Dragons rank fifth in the GMAC in ERA, (6.00), also allowing the second most homeruns in the conference with 13.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
Sam Seidel (Bowling Green #21)
In baseball, one of the hardest players to go against is one that is getting hot at the right time, and senior infielder Seidel is doing exactly that.
In his last four games, the Greenwich, Ohio native has tallied five hits for three runs and eleven RBIs, with three of those hits being homers.
Gunner Antillon (Bowling Green #41)
A key for Bowling Green baseball so far this season has been consistency, trusting in players to step in when their name has called an Antillon has continued to answer the bell.
The senior infield transfer is building himself a nice hitting streak, recording a hit in each of the past five games dating back to March 2.
Andrew Fairbrother (Tiffin #13)
It’s no secret that Tiffin is a strong batting team, but they will need some heavy hitters to contend with BGSU offensively, and the face of Tiffin’s offense is arguably Fairbrother.
The graduate student is third in the GMAC in RBIs with 18 and tied for first in the conference in doubles with six.
Similarly to Antillon for BGSU, Tiffin has a consistent guy hidden up their sleeve in the form of Grabowski, a senior from Avon Lake, Ohio.
So far this season, the senior is eighth in the GMAC with a 0.400 batting average, which is first on his team, and tallying 18 hits, which ranks sixth in the conference.
