The Buffalo Bulls (28-7, 13-5 MAC) beat Southern Indiana and Rutgers this week, granting them their first WNIT Fab 4 appearance.
The Bulls started the week with an impressive 76-64 victory over Southern Indiana in the Super 16. Buffalo came out of the gate hot, leading the Screaming Eagles 41-25 at halftime. Despite a 22-point fourth quarter, Southern Indiana couldn’t catch up.
Four Buffalo players scored double digits in the victory. The Mid-American Conference (MAC) points leader, fifth-year guard Chellia Watson led the game with 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
The win against Southern Indiana pushed Buffalo into the Great 8 in a Sunday afternoon matchup against Rutgers. The Bulls were victorious against the Scarlet Knights, winning 71-64.
Buffalo was down by seven at halftime but they flipped the script in the second half. The Bulls scored 29 points in the fourth quarter and held Rutgers to just 30 in the last two quarters combined.
Watson lit up the scoreboard yet again, scoring 28 to lead all scorers. Sophomore guard Kirsten Lewis-Williams also had a great game, scoring 17 points with six rebounds.
The Bulls are now one win shy of tying their program record for wins in a season set by the 2018 29-6 Sweet 16 team.
Buffalo will face the winner of Purdue Fort Wayne/Cleveland State in the Fab 4 next week.
