BGSU senior right-handed closer Connar Penrod has earned Mid-American Conference (MAC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
“Connar Penrod has been very consistent in his role at the back end of our bullpen through the first half of our season,” head coach Kyle Hallock said. “He’s competing at the highest level of his collegiate career and is determined for this team to have a special season.”
The honor is the first weekly conference award for Penrod in his collegiate career. He is the second Falcon to be honored by the MAC this season after the Orange and Brown earned seven weekly honors last year.
“Credit to my coaches and teammates for putting me in positions to be successful and for having my back when my number is called,” Penrod said.
Penrod earned a save in all three Bowling Green wins over Central Michigan over the weekend.
In his three saves against the Chippewas, Penrod allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out two batters in 3.1 innings pitched.
The Wauseon, Ohio, native is tied for first in the country with eight saves this season, which is also tied for the most in a single season in BGSU history. His nine career saves are tied for the ninth most in program history.
Penrod holds a 1.17 earned run average (ERA) this season, as he has allowed just two earned runs in 15.1 innings. He also has 24 strikeouts to just six walks.
Penrod has earned a win or a save in nine of his past 10 appearances.
