BGSU softball (12-22, 4-6 MAC) goes on the road for the second series in a row when they travel to the home of the Northern Illinois Huskies (10-20, 5-6 MAC) for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 at Mary M. Bell Field.
First pitch of the series is set for 1:00 p.m., and game two will start around 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Looking Back
The Falcons enter the contest fresh off of four straight losses in their last two matchups against Akron (19-18, 6-6 MAC) and Ball State (23-10, 8-4 MAC). In that span, the Orange and Brown have been outscored by their opponents by a combined margin of 41-17.
Northern Illinois leads the all-time series against the Falcons 34-31. Last year, the Huskies defeated BG twice at Meserve Field, while the Orange and Brown picked up an 11-3 win in five innings in the second game of the series.
Bowling Green are 14-18 on the road all-time against the Huskies and will look to pick up three important wins in DeKalb.
Forward Falcons
Bowling Green enters the weekend looking to improve offensively from a series where offensive production was sporadic. Shortstop Addie Martin had a combined six RBI and two runs scored across the two games, but her two RBIs in the first game against Akron were the only scores for the Falcons all game. They’ll look to emulate the second game of the last series where every Falcon but one had at least one hit.
The Huskies are one of only three MAC teams to lose a game to BGSU in the 2023-2024 season (Akron, Buffalo).
The Huskies
Northern Illinois enters the weekend on a three game win streak. Currently 6th in MAC standings (one slot ahead of BG, the first team out currently).
Danielle Stewart went hitless until the bottom of the 5th in game one of the Huskies’ last series against Ball State, striking out seven batters for her third time this season.
Lily Cassell pitched the entirety of NIU’s last game, allowing four hits and striking out three batters. Three Huskies had hits in both games of their last series against Ball State.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
#0 Redshirt freshman Third base – Addie Martin, Bowling Green
Martin drove in six runs in the Akron doubleheader, and leads the team in hits with 41 on the season (10th best in the MAC) and runs scored with 37. She has played all 34 games this season and is hitting a .376 average so far this year.
#2 Junior Middle infielder – Hannah Hunt, Bowling Green
While her nine-game hitting streak came to an end against Akron, Hunt is still second on the team with 38 hits. She remains in good form with a run and an RBI in the opener against Ball State and was 3-for-4 with two runs and another RBI in the final game back against Youngstown State.
#22 Junior Pitcher – Danielle Stewart, Northern Illinois
Last year, Stewart pitched her first career no-hitter against the Falcons last season. Currently, she holds a 4.88 ERA and leads the team with 52 strikeouts this season.
#4 Senior Outfielder – Jenna Turner, Northern Illinois
Turner is batting .376 this year while leading the Huskies in runs and hits, with 20 and 38 respectively. She has played all 3o games in 2025 for the Huskies, and coming off a quiet series against Ball State, Turner will look to have a big series against the Falcons.
