Buffalo (30-7, 13-5 MAC) beat Troy 88-84 in the WNIT Championship, capturing their first WNIT title in program history.
Buffalo’s season came full circle on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls ironically started off the season with an 80-78 victory over Troy in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) – Sun Belt Challenge.
Troy was beating Buffalo 44-34 at halftime. However, Buffalo’s fifth-year guard Noelani Cornfield woke the offense up, scoring eight points with five assists, three rebounds, and a steal in the third quarter. She finished the game with a 15-point, 11-assist double-double, along with six rebounds and three steals.
Then, with Buffalo down 81-80 with two minutes left in the game, senior guard Terah Harness scored a three-pointer, grabbed a defensive rebound and forced a Troy turnover to help Buffalo pull away with the win.
Harness finished the championship with a tournament-high 17 points, which is 10 points higher than her season average. Her performance was the most points she’s scored in over four months, since she put up 23 points against Niagara on Nov. 26.
The WNIT Championship victory puts the 2025 Bulls in the Buffalo record books as the team with the most wins in a single season in program history. The team’s 30 wins break the previous 29-win record held by the 2018 team that reached the Sweet 16.
