BGSU’s graduating senior goaltender, Christian Stoever, has signed a contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (WBS) Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), an affiliate of the NHL’s Pittsburg Penguins. Stoever joins the team on the heels of a great senior season, finishing as a top-three goalie in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
The Northville, Michigan, native’s senior year was far and away the best of his four, with a 1.76 goals allowed average and a .942 save percentage. He finished with a 12-3-3 record with three shutouts and a national ranking in both goals allowed and save percentage.
After the conclusion of his career, Stoever ranks sixth in BG program history in career goals against average (2.69), seventh in total saves (2,412), fifth in save percentage (.912), eighth in minutes (5192:40) and sixth in total shutouts.
He also set the single-season goals against average (1.76) and save percentage (.942) record for Bowling Green, meeting the minimum requirement of 40% of the team’s minutes played on the season (about 49%).
Stoever joins the Penguins with three games left in their AHL season before they begin the Calder Cup playoffs. He is the third Falcon to be signed to an affiliate league contract this season, with Ryan O’Hara and Seth Fyten to the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League (ECHL).
