Ali Mann, an assistant coach for the BG women’s basketball team, resigned Friday afternoon, citing personal reasons.
The announcement was made early Friday evening by BG Athletics in an online preview story for the team’s Saturday game at Miami University.
The resignation is effective immediately, according to the announcement.
The 2012-2013 season was Mann’s first on the coaching staff, having previously been a team standout and captain under former coach Curt Miller. Mann was captain for the 2006-2007 team that went to the “Sweet Sixteen” round of the NCAA basketball tournament.
That season, Mann was named Mid-American Conference co-Player of the Year and led the Falcons to a MAC-record 31 victories, according to her coaching biography.
Before being hired for this season, Mann had also briefly appeared with professional basketball teams in Luxembourg and Portugal, earning the Most Valuable Player Award in a Portuguese All-Star Game.
The Falcons will travel to Miami on Saturday to face the RedHawks in a battle for first place in the MAC East standings. Currently, BG and Akron share top spots in the MAC East with an 8-4 conference record. Miami is trailing the two teams by just one game.
