Bowling Green State University’s Football Coach Scot Leoffler will not travel with the team to Starkville, due to health related reasons.
News broke September 23 around 12:30 pm that Leoffler would not travel to Mississippi State with the Falcons as they take on the Bulldogs, due to health related reasons. According to the Assistant Athletic Director Vincent Briedis, Associate Head Coach and Linebacker Coach Steve Morrison will be acting head coach on Saturday.
According to a report by WTOL Sports Director Jordan Strack, this has been a week-long issue for Leoffler, who had a serious health issue which could’ve become much worse in 24 hours if not treated. This resulted in Leoffler spending two nights in the hospital, and not being cleared for travel yet.
BG News reached out to Bowling Green Athletics who told us, “We will not be sharing anymore info about what he is dealing with, We expect Coach Leoffler will be available at his Monday press conference.”
For Steve Morrison this will be his first complete career game as a collegiate head coach, after coaching in smaller positions throughout his 20 year college coaching career thus far. Morrison was hired as the Falcons associate Linebackers and Associate Head Coach in 2019, after a six year hiatus of coaching (2013-2019) leaving Syracuse for personal reasons in 2013. Morrison and Leoffler have a long relationship of working together, dating back to 1993 when the two coaches were teammates for the University of Michigan until 1995. This is Morrisons second time taking the reins from Leoffler. The last time was when Loeffler was ejected on October 21, 2021 last season in the third quarter against the Buffalo Bulls where the Falcons won 56-44 over the Bulls.
We at Falcon Media send our best wishes to Loeffler and his loved ones for a speedy recovery.
