  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]
  • Jeanette Winterson for “gAyPRIL”
“gAyPRIL” (Gay-April) continues on Falcon Radio, sharing a playlist curated by the Queer Trans Student Union, sharing songs celebrating the LGBTQ+ experience. BGSU, we’ll miss you…we think

What do April showers bring? Not May flowers but graduation! The thought of graduation coming has made us somewhat sentimental over leaving Bowling Green. We know this is a passing emotion, but we want to milk it for all it’s worth.

In our quest to reminisce about our years in school here in the sticks, we realize that there are many things that we want to do before we leave this beloved hole.

Here is our official list of what to do in BG before you graduate. (If you’ve done these, make sure you come to the News for your official gold star.)

You have one week left – give or take a few days – use this time wisely to experience the incredible sights, sounds, and tastes of this cultural paradise. This is said with our tongue firmly planted in our cheek.

First, you must eat at the Corner Grill. You know the place we’re talking about, the horrid little hole-in-the-wall that has the dilapidated 7-Up sign. People who have eaten there swear that you won’t get greasier food or worse service.

The second thing that you must do is go to the Rec and swim in the big pool. If you’ve ever been there, you know what we’re talking about. The pool is so cold that various limbs will fall off when you finally get done. And, if you’re brave enough, you can jump off the platforms in one last daring, idiotic stunt to commemorate your college years.

You must go to the Health Center. Many of us have never ventured inside, simply because of the daunting graveyard next door. Go anyways. Those graves are not from the Health Center no matter what the tour guides say. You won’t find cheaper prescriptions anywhere. Whether you need Tylenol 3, Penicillin, or some other unmentionable, you can get them for next to nothing. Who says you can’t find a bargain at BGSU?

Be an athletic supporter. Go to a BGSU sporting event. Softball and baseball both are playing right now as well as various other club and collegiate sports. By the way, intramurals don’t count, go support your school.

Walk into a building you’ve never been in and go to the top floor. For most of us, this is the library. Go to the very top and on your way down, check out each floor. It’ll be an experience, just trust us.

Other buildings that no one seems to visit include Shatzel Hall, which seems to be a complete mystery, and McFall Center, which seems too daunting for students. Take a trip to another major for a couple of minutes.

Go see a show at the planetarium. Where else will you see complete explanations of all the constellations?

Go to the ice rink. Cheap thrills on a thin blade. Enough said.

This place is heaven on earth. Enjoy it while you still can. You’ll miss it when you’re gone.
