Falcons shock Gophers

MINNEPOLIS – The BG football team didn’t waste any time in bouncing back from last year’s disappointing 4-8 season. The Falcons beat Minnesota 32-31 in a thrilling start to the 2007 season. After BG jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime, it seemed like it would roll to victory. But it was a tale of two halves. Minnesota scored 24 unanswered points, kicking a field goal to take the lead with more than two minutes left. But the Falcons didn’t let their hard offseason go to waste. Tyler Sheehan led a nine-play, 42-yard drive that resulted in a Sinisa Vrvillo field goal to tie the game. After the Gophers scored on their second play of overtime, the Falcons did the same thing. But they didn’t kick the extra point, they wanted to win right then. Sheehan then found Freddie Barnes on the right side of the end zone for the conversion and the win. It’s the first win for the Falcons since last year’s homecoming game where they defeated Eastern Michigan 24-21.
