For many seniors, the last few weeks of the fall 2009 semester will be their final days on campus. And with December commencement approaching quickly, many graduates have a few last minute purchases to make
Today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., The Grad Fair will take place in the Union Multipurpose room. The event will display a number of products for sale, ranging from caps and gowns, class rings, announcements and Bowling Green memorabilia.
Pam Oler, the general trade supervisor at the bookstore, is the chief coordinator behind the event.
‘Students will be able to purchase all the necessities they need for graduation at The Grad Fair,’ Oler said. ‘There will also be several BGSU organizations with tables set up so students will be able to find information about graduate programs.’
Among the organizations will be Dance Marathon, The University Alumni Department and the University Grad College. Most of the products at the event will come from the company Balfour, the University’s supplier of class rings and memorabilia since 2001.
Rose Mary Whaling, the vice president of marketing at Balfour, said several company sales representatives will be on campus with a number of different products.
‘There will be representatives on campus pretty much all day,’ she said. ‘We really want to bring a lot of merchandise so students can see firsthand what we are selling. Several of the products will be available for purchase at the event, but custom orders will be discussed.’
Eviytte Zapata is a Belfour employee. She will be on campus for The Fair, answering questions students may have about commencement.
‘A lot of students really don’t know how to size their gown or what size ring to buy,’ Zapata said. ‘Belfour wants to make sure every customer leaves happy and satisfied with their purchases. The Grad Fair is a great chance for students to take care of everything they need for graduation all at once.”
