The BG men’s basketball team fought back from an 18-point second half deficit, but allowed Western Kentucky to go on a 7-0 run to end the game in a 60-53 loss to the Hilltoppers Sunday afternoon.
Scott Thomas hit a three pointer with 2:18 remaining in the second half, but the Falcons were unable to capitalize on momentum and take the lead.
Western Kentucky outscored the Falcons 33-21 in the first half, and had an 18-point advantage with 16:32 remaining in the second half.
The Hilltoppers shot a staggering 60.9 from the field in the first half, but only 18.2 percent in the second half, including 0-for-11 on three-point attempts, and had a seven minute period without a field goal in the second half.
Scott Thomas paced the BG offense, dropping 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including a 1-for-3 mark on three-pointers and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Thomas added eight rebounds and two assists.
However, the Falcons struggled shooting as a team, shooting only 33.3 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three-point distance.
A’uston Calhoun was the only other player to score in double figured for the Falcons, putting up 11 points, but only played 25 minutes due to foul trouble.
The Hilltoppers out-rebounded BG 43-33, but also turned the ball over 21 times, to 14 turnovers committed by the Falcons.
The Falcons next take the court Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Malone at the Stroh Center.
