The University Dance Alliance is holding auditions Sunday in 222 Eppler North from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The auditions are being held to seek potential new members for UDA’s Spring Showcase.
UDA is a student organization that promotes dance on campus and is looking forward to the upcoming auditions, according to UDA’s president, Maria Perez.
“We have a showcase at the end of each semester, and they are always extremely successful. We always have a full house and have great feedback from the audience. We are looking at about 30 to 40 people show up for the auditions, which is great.” Perez said.
The audition process will consist of UDA officers teaching various short dance combinations in different styles; jazz, ballet/lyrical, modern, tap and hip-hop. However, Perez assures that one does not have to audition in every style of dance that will be taught on Sunday.
Perez also offered advice for those who are planning on auditioning. “The room will be opening at 3 p.m. Auditions begin promptly at 3:30, so be ready to go.”
Perez encourages anyone who is interested to audition, regardless of their level of experience.
The candidates who are chosen will perform in UDA’s Spring Showcase, which will take place Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m. in 222 Eppler North. Admission to this show is free, but seating is limited and spectators are encouraged to plan ahead and come early.
However, if showcases are not your style, UDA encourages you to come to the student led dance courses they offer weekly, Perez said
“These include traditional dance forms as well as ethnic and cultural dances. The classes are open to everyone regardless of past experience or training,” Perez said.
The classes are held on Wednesdays in 222 Eppler North from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are $3 per class or free to members of UDA.
