  • Repairing the Family
By Jay Grummel Earlier this month I wrote about fond families, however the holidays are made up of many different types of families. Some will be hostile and dysfunctional or some will be loving and understanding. Whatever your family looks like this season, it’s always nice to read about ones other than your own. So, […]
  • Review of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Let’s time-travel to the year 2012 and the world is raving about none other than Katniss Everdeen. I remember being in elementary school, begging my mother to let me dress up as her for my birthday. Now it’s over ten years later and I’m still just as excited for the new movie as I was […]

Goody’s in store for Bowling Green

Goody’s department store will open late this fall on South Main Street in a building that has been vacant for two years.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;Goody’s has 12 stores throughout Ohio and over 375 stores nationwide. Ohio’s neighboring states also have several stores Indiana with 44, and Kentucky with 28.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;The property which once held K-Mart and Dollar General, is located next to The Home Depot and directly across the street from the soon-to-be Super Wal-Mart store.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;Chase Properties Ltd. bought the property earlier this summer. The Cleveland-based company hopes to increase the value and profitability by marketing the property to established national and regional chains.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160; ‘I am hopeful that several other stores will open in the center later this fall,’ Dave Palchesko said, vice president of acquisitions and development. Palchesko is in the process of negotiating leases with eight other perspective tenets but estimates 12 shops will fill the center.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;Chase Properties Ltd. reported on their Web site,, that the total retail sales in the Bowling Green area is $326 million. Palchesko believes that this is a good market for a regional or national chain to open a store.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;’Some larger national chains will not enter a market of $326 million but certainly most will for a market this size. This development will be a great addition for Bowling Green,’ Palchesko said.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;Sue Clark, executive director of the Bowling Green Community Development Foundation has tried for the last two years to market the property so that someone would purchase or lease it.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;’I contacted grocery store chains and other chains to show them Bowling Green was a good place for their business and a good investment. Now that the property has sold, I am delighted for the renovations,’ Clark said.

‘#160;’#160;’#160;’#160;Chase Properties Ltd. estimates that the shopping complex will be completely open by early next year. Several stores are expected to finalize and sign leases within the next couple months.
