BGSEA confrence tomorrow

The Bowling Green Student Education Association will be bringing various speakers to campus as apart of their conference on Saturday.

The conference will consist of numerous break out sessions that include classroom management, tips on making a portfolio, first year teaching, technology in the classroom, legal rights, and interviewing tips. 10 to15 students will be in each break out group. Each session, will consist of 3 or 4 topics and you pick which one you want to attend.

“I liked having the opportunity to choose which sessions I wanted to attend, rather than having to attend sessions about topics that weren’t interesting to me,” said Abby McCrate, BGSEA member.

The Vice-Superintendent of the Medina school systems, Will Koran, will be the key note speaker.

The break out sessions allow each student to get personal attention and cover topics that professors may not have time to cover over the span of a semester.

Every one on campus has the opportunity to take part in the event, not just BGSEA members. However the conference is mostly geared at benefiting education majors.

“I believe this is a wonderful opportunity for education majors,” said Melissa Stanley, who is on the BGSEA executive board, “It allows us, future teachers, to gain some useful information that can be helpful in the years to come.”

The BGSEA have held this conference last year and say based on past years numbers they expect around 50 people to attend.

Registration will begin at 8:45am this Saturday in Olscamp ; the conference officially begins at 9:00. It is projected to be over at around 1:00pm, with a lunch break at noon.

“I’ll admit that when I first signed up for the conference last year, I remember asking myself what I was thinking – I was voluntarily signing up for to take part in something at 8:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning!” said McCrate, “However, when the conference was over, I was so glad that I had decided to attend, and I left the conference with so much more information than I had had before I came that morning. I still find myself referring back to things I learned through the conference even today.”

Any education major wanting to join BGSEA can pick up a membership form out side of room 410 in the Education Building. The group holds their meetings on the first Tuesday of every month.
