  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Hoyas use late score to shut out Falcons 1-0

On Saturday, the Bowling Green State Falcons traveled to Georgetown to face the Hoyas in a non-conference match. The two teams played a fairly even match until Georgetown scored in the last five minutes to shut out the Falcons 1-0.

Here’s how it happened.

The first half began with a strong start from the Falcons with two shots from seniors Kale Nichols and Josh Erlandson. Georgetown responded with three shots, each falling short of the goal. With an offside and yellow card call on Amer Dedic of the Orange and Brown, the match would go on for nearly 20 minutes without shots from either team. Around the forty-minute mark, Sergi Martinez and Jensen Lukacsko would take a shot each, but both would fail to hit the back of the net. Goalkeeper Brendan Graves would book one save and the first period would end quietly with a 0-0 score.

Following the trend of the first period, both teams opened with non-scoring shots within the first few minutes of playing time. First, Georgetown’s Jacob Murrell would be out top left and then followed by a Falcon shot by Kale Nichols (saved by Schewe). With another offside call on the Falcons shortly after, the momentum wouldn’t pick up again until about ten minutes later. In minute 57, Bowling Green’s Jake Bergin would take a shot (out top right), which would be accompanied by two Georgetown shots minutes afterwards. Georgetown would follow up with a solo shot from Zach Zengue and two minutes later, Martinez would take his second shot of the match. Between minutes 72 and 74, the Georgetown Hoyas would take two more shots, one being saved by Graves for his second save of the day. Around 83 minutes into the match, the Hoyas took another shot to be saved again by Graves.

Less than a minute later, with about seven minutes left, Georgetown’s Jack Panyotou would score the only goal of the match. With the score at 1-0, Bowling Green’s Terry Trace and Alberto Anaya would attempt to score but fell short of the goal. Graves would end the day with three saves and Kale Nichols and Sergi Martinez would book two shots each versus the Hoyas.

The Falcons look ahead as they prepare to face the Akron Zips at home for a MAC Contest. The two teams will face off on Thursday night at Cochrane Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
