Pet safety during winter weather

Humane Ohio Spay/Neuter Clinic offers some important reminders regarding how to care for your pets during the cold winter months.

Be sure to check social media to find out if the clinic has closed. Humane Ohio states that they will close if Lucas County goes into a Level 3 snow emergency by 7 a.m. Humane Ohio will also contact all their clients who have previously scheduled for that day. They then will reschedule their appointment

As a way to keep your cats warm during the winter, the clinic sells straw-filled Styrofoam coolers that serve as shelters.

Other tips for caring for your pets this winter include putting a coat or sweater on your dogs or cats to add an extra layer of warmth and cuteness.

Putting booties on your pets paws can provide protection from salt getting stuck in between toes which can cause irritation.

Using pet-friendly ice melts will also be beneficial to your pets safety, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
