The fifth seed Ohio Bobcats defeated the fourth seed Ball State Cardinals yesterday in the Mid-American Conference Men’s Quarterfinal round, 90-70, to advance to the semifinals against the Toledo Rockets.

Freshman guard AJ Brown was phenomenal for the green and white, leading the way with a career-high 28 points in the dominant offensive performance by the Bobcats.

Overall in the contest, Ohio shot 48.5% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc. The Bobcats also knocked down 13 free throws.

Known for his typical offensive dominance, OU’s leading scorer this season, Dwight Wilson III, added in an impressive 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaylin Hunter added in 13 points and four assists in the win.

For the Cardinals, Sophomore standout Payton Sparks led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds. Demarius Jacobs added 11 points as well.

The lone seed versus seed upset throughout the quarterfinal round, head coach Jeff Boals knew that his team was not afraid of the moment.

“I know our guys look forward to it,” Boals said. “We came here earlier and watched Jason Preston play and got the chance to experience the arena. It feels great to get the first one and we are fortunate to get to play another tournament game.”

The Bobcats are set to square off with the Toledo Rockets at 5 p.m. from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in the semifinal round. That game can be heard on Falcon Radio by going to the home page of bgfalconmedia.com.
