Falcons’ hot start not enough against the Zips, fall 11-1

The Bowling Green softball team lost 11-1 to the Akron Zips on Sunday.

The Zips swept the Falcons in their weekend series, taking all three games.

This was also the second game in this series that resulted in a mercy rule.

Bowling Green struck first, led by a junior Sophie Weber RBI allowing junior Peyton Dolejs to score the first point of the game.

The hot start for the Falcons continued on the defensive side of the ball as junior Sydney Stepp allowed one lone hit through two innings.

However, that was the extent of highlights for BGSU as the Zips stormed back in the third and fourth innings outscoring BGSU 10-0.

The mercy rule was applied to start the fifth inning and with bats quiet, the Falcons fell to Akron 11-1.

BGSU will now look forward to a three-game series against Ball State starting on April 21.

They look to snap a 15-game losing streak at home against the Cardinals.
